FUNCTION FOLLOWS FORM; HOW MIXED USED SPACES IN MUSEUM BUILD COMMUNITY
This paper, published in Curator in 2001 (Curator 44/1, January 2001, pp 87-113) was written after I had carefully reread Jane Jacobs The Death and Life of the Great American City and realized that the streetscape she was talking about worked equally well within the museum indoor space. It forms the basis of my understanding about the layers of interactivity between peoples that makes a difference.
I am now writing about strangers but it was Jane Jacobs that alerted me to the power of them in their various guises.
A version of this paper is attached.
