Turning the Ocean Liner Slowly 1990
“Turning the Ocean Liner Slowly” was about the Smithsonian Institution after I had left. I had been the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Museums and the Deputy Director for Public Program Planning for the National Museum of the American Indian. In 1990 I became the Deputy Director for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum no longer at the Smithsonian.
This is a paper, as all my papers are, about some form of accessibility. This time with an emphasis on organization and demographic change.
Politically it was a much more optimistic liberal political time then (1990) than now as I upload this paper (2015). The world seems to be universally turning toward the right with power going unevenly to the rich and priviledged.
