Free At Last (AAM version)
The article “Free at Last” appeared in Museum News in 2005. The article espouses free entrance without mandatory admission as necessary for welcoming more and more diverse visitors and encouraging frequent short visits by those who find museums useful. I continue to believe that mandatory admission and the process of collecting it remains a “means” test discouraging tentative users from entering the building. The original paper on which the article is based is attached.
