ANSWERS TO THE CONSULTANTS ROLE FOR MUSEUM NEWS
The bi-lawys of AAM and the practices regardling consultants did not reflect the changing world of work when I became a consultant in 1993. And having been an official in the AAM when salaried I gathered my newly minted consultant friends and we set about petitioning changes in practice toward consultants from the AAM. That process took quite a long time but it was always professional, educational for all, and interesting. AAM did indeed change all its practices slowly but surely so that today consultants are treated equally with their salaried colleagues.
This attached paper written in 2003 was answers to questions posed by Museum News staff and parts were published. It was part of the process of education on all sides.
